Rajasthan Trip Plan: 7-Day Itinerary With Route, Best Time and Taxi Tips

Rajasthan is one of India's most rewarding states to explore, with forts, palaces, deserts, lakes and wildlife in a single trip. The challenge is that distances are long and the best places are spread across the state, so a good Rajasthan trip plan matters. A clear route and a comfortable vehicle can make the difference between a rushed holiday and a relaxed one.

This guide gives you a practical 7-day Rajasthan itinerary starting from Jaipur, along with the best time to travel and a few tips for travelling by private taxi. If you would rather have the plan prepared for you, see our Rajasthan tour packages.

7-Day Rajasthan Trip Plan at a Glance

  • Day 1 and 2: Jaipur sightseeing
  • Day 3: Jaipur to Ajmer and Pushkar, then onward to Jodhpur
  • Day 4: Jodhpur sightseeing, then drive to Jaisalmer
  • Day 5: Jaisalmer fort, havelis and desert experience
  • Day 6: Jaisalmer to Jodhpur or Udaipur (long drive day)
  • Day 7: Udaipur sightseeing and departure

Some stretches, such as Jaisalmer to Udaipur, are very long. You can split the drive with a night halt or choose a shorter route if you are short on time.

Day 1 and 2: Jaipur

Spend your first two days in the Pink City. Cover Amer Fort, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and the local markets. A full-day cab makes this easy, and our Jaipur sightseeing tour page explains the usual route. If you have extra time, add a short day trip such as Jaipur to Ranthambore for a safari.

Day 3: Ajmer, Pushkar and Jodhpur

Start early and drive towards Ajmer for the dargah and Ana Sagar Lake, then continue to Pushkar for the lake and the Brahma temple. After lunch you can continue towards Jodhpur. For this section, see our Jaipur to Ajmer Pushkar taxi page and the blog on a one day trip by car.

Day 4: Jodhpur

Visit Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and the blue lanes of the old city. If time allows, stop for local snacks near the clock tower market. In the afternoon you can start the drive towards Jaisalmer.

Day 5: Jaisalmer

Explore Jaisalmer Fort, the havelis and Gadisar Lake. In the evening, many travellers visit the Sam sand dunes for a camel ride and cultural performance. Book desert camps in advance during winter.

Day 6 and 7: Towards Udaipur

From Jaisalmer, head to Jodhpur or directly towards Udaipur with a stop on the way. In Udaipur, visit the City Palace, Lake Pichola and Saheliyon ki Bari. You can end your trip here or return to Jaipur by road.

Best Time for a Rajasthan Trip

  • October to March: the best season, with pleasant weather for sightseeing and the desert.
  • April to June: very hot, so plan early starts and indoor activities in the afternoon.
  • July to September: monsoon brings green landscapes and fewer tourists, though desert activities may be limited.

Why Choose a Private Taxi for Rajasthan

  • Distances between cities are long and train timings do not always match your plan.
  • You can stop at forts, temples and viewpoints along the way.
  • A single driver stays with you for the whole trip, so you do not need to change vehicles.
  • Easy for families, couples and groups with luggage.

For a small family a sedan or SUV from our Jaipur car rental options works well, and groups can choose a Tempo Traveller. You can also read our guide on taxi for Rajasthan tour.

Tips for Planning Your Trip

  • Do not try to cover too many cities in a short time; give each city at least one night.
  • Book hotels and desert camps early in the winter peak season.
  • Confirm entry timings and ticket rules for forts and palaces before you go.
  • Carry light cotton clothes in summer and warm layers for winter nights.
  • Share your route and number of days with the driver before the journey starts.
